- Municipality issued documents lacked an anti-counterfeiting feature
- No way to check authenticity of vehicle registration stickers in real-time
Several Chilean municipalities sought a solution for identifying counterfeit vehicle registrations in circulation. Requirements included real-time inspection results and protection for PII.
Scantrust worked in close cooperation with the Chilean mint, Casa de la Moneda de Chile, to generate Secure QR codes for vehicle registrations in select municipalities of Santiago, Chile.
The project addressed a problem with observed falsification of vehicle registration documents. Circulation permit Authorities can now quickly and conveniently authenticate any municipality issued document bearing a Scantrust secure QR code using nothing more than a smartphone. The secure QR code program was also setup to protect personally identifiable information (PII) with two kinds of access upon scanning: one variant is for consumer scans without exposure of PII, and one by an inspector which reveals personal details as required by the authorized government representative.
